World's Mother and Father, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi with all the powers vested in them start their journey towards, Earth's Kailasa, the world's centre, home to Vedas, Upasanakendra, their new called home, Srisaila Kshetram. The only Lord Shiva's Dhaamam that's going to remain before and after the Universe is Srisaila Kshetram.

Srisaileshwaralingatulyamamalam Lingam Na Bhumandale Bhrahmandapralayepi Tasyavilayaa Naasthiti Vedoktayaaha Tasmaath Tadbhajanena Muktirakhilteihi Praapya Na Sa Durlabha Tatutpujha Niratyasya Durlabhatamam Kimvaa Jagasmandale (Shivarahasyam) There is no Lingam in this world like the one in Srisailam. Vedas, Rishis and Siddhis also support the fact that there is no shrine like that of Srisailam. So all shall attain Mukthi if they worship Mallikarjuna Swamy. There is nothing unattainable if one worships Mallikarjuna Swamy. The temple's glory is well described in ancient scripts, Ramayana, Puranas, etc. Kumara, Agastya, Vashishta, Lopamudra, Vyasa Maharshi, Garga Maharshi, Durvasoma Maharshi, Manmadhudu, Shankaracharyulu, and many such rishis, siddhis and gurus; Kings like Sri Rama, the Pandavas, Asura icons like Ravana and Hiranyakashyap, Many acharyas like the leader of Mantralaya-Raghavendra Swamy, Hema Reddy Mallamma, Basaveshwarudu, Siddharamappa, Chakrapani Ranganatha, The leader of Kanchikamakoti Peetam-Chandrashekhara, many such great people have visited Srisailam. Even to this day, many Siddhis from the Himalayas come down to the hills of Srisailam.

"Seve ShrigiriMallikarjuna Shivaa Lingitham"(Shivaanandalahari) "Dhruvam Jyotirlingam Dviteeyam Cha Proktam Mallika Sangnyakam"(Shiva Puranam) "Srisailasamam Kshetram Naasti Naastiti Mei Mathihi" "Srisaila shikharamDrushta Punarjanma Na Vidhyate(Srisaila Khandam) "Kaashyaam Tu Maranaasmukthihi Smaranaadarunachale Darshanadeva Srisaile Purarjanmnya Na Vidyathe"(Skanda Puranam"...

These lines tell the significance of Srisailam and Shiva's Vibhuti. Mallikarjuna Swamy who resides in Srisailam has been mentioned in many Puranas.

1.Maharshi Siladha performed severe Tapasya for thousands of years after which Maha Deva granted his vision and Silada’s wish in the form of Nandi. With the wisdom taught by his father, Nandi became the vehicle of Lord Shiva. Upon the request of Parvathi Devi, Shiva along with all his powers started his journey towards Earth's Kailasa, Srisailam to bless his devotees just how he blessed Siladha and Nandi.

2.Parvateshwar, Lord Shiva granted a devotee, Vasumathi Shritvam after she did a Tapasya. The Lord has once again proved to be a blesser for those who worship him.

3.Lord Shiva entered Arjuna Tree, which was encircled by Jasmine creeper to be known as Mallikarjuna Swamy. In the form of Jyotirlinga, he resides in Srisailam for his devotees. In Srisaila Khandam Asthi Me Niyathaavaasaha Kailasa Ithi Sarvadha Bhuvi Shriparvathatho Naama Saha Sarvasurottamai O Parvathi, everyone knows that I only stay in Kailasa. But, on Earth, the only place that gives me happiness is Sri hill.

Atra Me Hrudayam Devi Yadha Prithimapagatham Na Thadha Ramathe Tatra Kailase Kaamadayani. Devi! My heart is filled with joy in Srisailam the same way it flutters in joy at Kailasa.

Asmadevi Gunashreshtyam Shrigirou Kaamadayani Kailasadhapi Bho! Devi! Nivasassokhado Mama. Truth to be told, I find more joy at Srisailam than at Kailasa.

4.After few Yugas, a devotee called Chandravathi offered Seva to the lord after which the god accepted a flower called Mallika, since then to be called Mallikarjuna. Yadhaahaam Mallikaamaalaam Maardhi Veshtathavaas Madhaa Mallikarjunasangyabhooth Tadaapbruthi Me Priye. I'm called Mallikarjuna as I accepted to wrap my head with the garland of Mallika

Chandrimeeva Kalaam Divyam Amlanam Mallikasrajam Shirasyakalayam Yasmaath Thadaham Mallikarjunaha This garland shall never wither under these rays of the moon and I shall stay here in Srisailam in the form of Mallikarjuna

Achadaryamaham Devi! Yadhaasam Mallikarjunaha Mullokei Saha Svayam Thishtheth Kalpakotishatatrayam Just how I appear in my truest form in Shivaloka, I shall appear as Mallikarjuna in Srisailam as long as the sun and moon exist.

Shrigirou Pujayaan Lingam Divyam ShriMallikarjunam Sadayaam Bhramaraambhaam Cha Kruthaardasyath Na Samshayaha In Srisaila khandam the god himself says that If one worships the Lingam at Srisailam, they shall earn the blessings of Bhramarambhika Devi along with Mallikarjuna Swamy

5.The Arjuna tree entwined with jasmine creeper is Mallikarjuna. Arjuna means white/fair. Hence the god is the fair one. Lord Shiva is also known as Indra along with Arjuna. "Namaha Sahasraakshaya Vidhushe". "Agnishchama Indracchame, Somacchama Indrashchame" Since the god handed over the administration to Lord Indra, hence he was known to as Indra. Lord Indra named his son after Lord Shiva's name, Arjuna(one of the Pandavas). Upon Vyasa's saying, the Pandavas visited Srisailam and established five Lingams under their own names.

6.As white as a jasmine flower hence called as Mallikarjuna. "Gokshira Sadrushaakaraha Arjuna" as described in Skanda Purana. The god shines as white as cows milk. Lord shive is above all three Gunas. That's why we humans can not know of the truest of lord Shiva. This is why Lord Shiva has resided in the form of Mallikarjuna in Srisailam to be a blesser and be available to devotees in his truest form that humans can perceive.

7.Lord Shiva if adorned an avatar always shines very fair. Since he appears with a garland of Jasmines, he is Mallikarjuna or because he appeared as an Arjuna tree entwined with Jasmine creeper he is Mallikarjuna Swamy. It is also clear that Goddess Parvathi stays beside the lord at Srisailam.

8.Even before Goddess Parvathi decided to reside as Bhramarambika Devi in Srisailam, Parvathi Devi did Tapasya in Umamaheshwari and appeared as Ardhanarishwari. Hence the temple of Ardhanarishwari and Umamaheshwari. This is why Srisailasankalpam say that "Ardhanarishwari Bhramara Parameshwari Mukhyashatakoti Mahashakthisthaanaanaam"

9.Guru Shankaracharya with years of Tapasya at Srisailam has penned Sivaananda Lahari Yogatharavali Lakshminrusimhakaraavalambasthrotra. With Tapasya to please Bhramarambika Devi, he offered his Kavividya and established Srichakra at Srisailam. This is why Sri Chakra is Srisailam, Srisailam is Sri Chakra.

10.The lord himself describes the outcomes of worshipping at Srisailam to Goddess Parvathi in Srisaila Khandam... Shrinu Devi! Mahaaguhyaam Kadyamaanam Visheshataha Shriparvathe Suvigneyam Theertham Paramadurlabham O Parvathi! These Sri hills have many secrets. The opportunity to worship at Srisailam is a fortunate one. cultural wonders of Srisailam Mallikarjuna Temple, India.

Srisailam Mallikarjuna Temple India is a land of cultural wonders. The walls of the centuries-old temples are a window into not only the life of people but also the rich heritage, wisdom, and knowledge.

One such ancient wonder is the Mallikarjuna jyotirlinga temple in Srisailam of Andhra Pradesh. The temple is also famous as “the Kailash of the south.” Since ancient times, Srisailam has had a significant impact on Hindu religious, cultural, and social history.

Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna temple, or Srisailam temple, is an abode of Shiva and Parvati, making it a unique religious place for Shaivaities and Shakti worshippers. The name of the Lord – Mallikarjuna, comes from two words – Mallika, meaning Parvathi, and Arjuna implying Lord Shiva. It is said that everyone who enters this temple achieves moksha and has all of their wishes granted.

The famous temple is on the banks of the river Krishna, one of the lifelines of Andhra Pradesh. Pilgrims throng to the temple and consider it auspicious to dip in the river before visiting the Lord and Goddess.

Mythology and History of Srisailam Mallikarjuna swamy Temple

Lord Shiva and Parvati decided to get Lord Ganesha and Lord Karthikeya married. To decide who would be married sooner, they organized a competition. The first person to circulate the earth thrice was to be married earlier than the other.

Lord Kartikeya mounted his peacock and set off to circulate the earth. Meanwhile, Lord Ganesha folded his hands and came around his parents thrice. On asking the reason, he said his parents represent the earth, and they are his world. Satisfied with the explanation, Lord Ganesha was declared the winner.

On his return, Lord Kartikeya was infuriated when he learned he had lost the competition. In anger, he departed towards Kraunch mountain or the current Srisailam mountains. Despite their best efforts, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathy could not stop him from leaving. In efforts to make peace with him, Lord Shiva in Jyothrilanga form and Goddess Parvati as Brahmaramba settled in Srisailam. Temples to worship both were built later on.

Another lore of Chandravathi, Chandragupta Patana’s daughter, surrounds the temple’s origins. Fearing her father’s advances, she fled the kingdom with her servants and cattle. She ascended to the mountaintops of Sirsailam after crossing the Krishna river. She noticed that one of her cows would stand over a rock mound daily and dribble milk over it. The princess had a dream in which the rock revealed itself as a Linga of Lord Shiva.

So, she plowed the earth and discovered a dazzling Linga. She decorated the Linga with Jasmine (Mallika) flowers daily to offer her prayers to the omnipotent. Lores say that is how Lord Rudra got his name, Mallikarjuna.
